As Councilman at Large and President of the City Council, Mark Verret leads the city's legislative branch of government enacting all local laws and reviewing, approving, and monitoring the revenues and expenditures of the city's annual budget.

" I am proud that we have provided city services without any tax increase and have consistently maintained a balanced budget while simultaneously increasing the city’s “rainy day” fund.  In addition, I have been focused on land use and zoning matters as well as annexation requests.  I am also proud to say that the Covington Police Department has finally been fully funded, enabling it to begin the process of enforcing the law while serving and protecting our community.  As Public Safety Chairman, I have prioritized ensuring fair and professional services provided by police, fire and public works benefitting the City of Covington's residents, business owners, and visitors.  I have a proven record of collaborating with the community to maintain the highest level of public safety and to preserve our quality of life.

We must ensure that the city's Code Enforcement and Permitting Department promotes consistency and fairness in Covington by enforcing city ordinances in a professional and effective manner.  Together, we can continue much needed improvements to our city."

We must properly fund and implement public works/infrastructure projects throughout our city. The City of Covington Public Works Department is responsible for maintenance and improvements for the city's entire infrastructure. This includes sewer plant operations, sewage collection systems, water wells, lift stations, traffic signs, drainage, and city streets.

As President of the Council, I have worked closely with the City Administration to ensure that our Public Works Department is committed to providing efficient and cost-effective services involving the maintenance and operation of public facilities and equipment.

I will continue to work with our city’s Planning Department to promote quality sustainable development through programs such as growth and land use management, community development, and historic preservation.

We must continue to address a master plan for the city’s parks and recreational facilities which serve the local community.  Upgrades and future planning are key to their success.

Covington is also known for its Arts and Historic District. The nationally registered Historic District in downtown Covington has many art galleries and restaurants inviting both residents and visitors alike.  Parking and traffic issues remain a challenge and must continue to be addressed.
